How to fix square body door hinges.
Use a hinge leaf as a template to make a cardboard shim that you can slip behind the leaf.
You may need to add a second screw.
Set two or three cardboard shims in the hinge mortises on the door and jamb then replace the hinge.
You can also adjust a door slightly to the left or the right by bending the hinge knuckles.
Once you have the door square with the body opening you can adjust the door forward or rearward and up and down to get the gaps as even as you can all the way around.
If it binds on the latch side at the bottom you may need to fix the bottom hinge screws.
Tighten the screws or repair the screw holes.
Tighten screws gradually and watch the trim to make sure you don t.
If you end up too much gap between the top rear of the door and body you can shim up the 5 and 6 mounts to lift the back of body up a bit which closes the gap.
Its all in the bushing.
Drill through the jamb countersink the screwhead with a countersink bit.
One other way that works well to help align once you have painted is to drill an 1 8 hole through the hinge door thread plate once you have the door where you want it then after painting you start the bolts and use a 1 8 pin punch to align the parts tighten the bolts then pull the punch out.
Hold door hinge against cardboard and use utility knife to cut around hinge.
A binding door may need to be planed but often simpler repairs will solve the problem.
Do you have to slam your doors in order to close on your good ol chevy.
If a door binds on the latch side at the top the upper hinge may be loose.
